MA Day for 2013 matriculands
Due to the pandemic we regrettably had to cancel the MA Day for 2013 matriculands, which was due to take place on 16th May 2020. We are delighted to now be able to invite back those Members who matriculated in October 2013 and graduated with the B.A. degree prior to December 2017 to receive their M.A., either in person or in absence, on Friday 1st April 2022.
Invitations to those eligible have now been sent out. If you believe you should have received an invitation but didn’t, please get in touch with the Praelector's Secretary who will check your eligibility to graduate at this ceremony.
Applications must be received before the cut-off date of Friday 11 March 2022.
Please note that late applications will not be accepted.
Programme
There will be a graduation photograph, followed by a garden party in College. Graduands will then be briefed by the Praelector, before processing to Senate House for the congregation.
The precise time of the ceremony varies from year to year and we will not know the exact timetable of proceedings until the Tuesday preceding the ceremony. Attendees will be informed as soon as the schedule is confirmed. At present the latest at which Magdalene could be presented at Senate House is 3.10pm, but this could be earlier depending on the number of graduands from other Colleges that day. It is expected that the programme for the day will begin any time from 10.30am.
Accommodation and guests
We regret that guests are not permitted in Senate House or at the College garden party.
Unfortunately it is not possible to offer accommodation in College for MA Day attendees as the ceremony takes place during Full Term and undergraduates are in residence.
Apply to take your MA
The deadline for applying to take your MA on 1 April has now passed. You can apply take your M.A. in absence at any other ceremony in the Senate House schedule, or in person on the days designated for the presentation of Magdalene candidates. Please see here for further dates and links to the necessary application form.
Trinitarian Formula: Normally degrees are conferred (in Latin) using the Trinitarian formula 'In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit', 但通常这可能是缩写. Graduands who prefer the formula 'in the name of God' to be used, or neither of these formulae, may request this by marking the application form accordingly. Similarly those who for religious or health reasons wish to have their degree conferred without kneeling may request this.
Academic dress and gown hire for MA Day
All information relating to academic dress and links to Cambridge gown hire companies can be found here.
The majority of M.A. Graduands will wear the B.A. gown and B.A. hood. If you already have a degree of the University higher than the B.A. (i.e. MPhil), you will wear the corresponding gown and hood. Undergraduate gowns must NOT be worn. If you are in any doubt about which gown and hood you need to wear for the ceremony, it is recommended that you seek advice from one of the gown hire companies listed at the link above.
Taking your M.A. at another ceremony
If you are unable to attend the MA Day, you are welcome to take your M.A. in absence at any other ceremony in the Senate House schedule, or in person on the days designated for the presentation of Magdalene candidates. Please see here for further dates and links to the necessary application form.
After receiving your M.A.
Once you have been admitted to the M.A. degree, you are entitled to dine at High Table once in each Full Term free of charge (except for wine). Full details of your dining rights, and other privileges available to alumni, can be found here.
